Startup Investment Manager
The Startup Investment Manager is accountable for managing the implementation of key areas of the investor and start-up engagement strategies at Digital Catapult, via the FutureScope acceleration programme, and reports to the Head of Startup Investment. The key objective of the Startup Investment team is to deliver initiatives that increase the level of private investment into advanced technology startups and deliver investment impact for Digital Catapult. The Startup Investment Manager will play a critical role in enabling Digital Catapult to scale our ability to support startups to raise investment (typically VC or angel investment). The role will provide exposure to the early-stage investment landscape, with the opportunity to build relationships with founders and investors, and will also focus on operations around managing our relationships as we look to scale our impact.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)
- Investment readiness programme delivery – manage the delivery of investment readiness activities that enable startups to become ready to raise investment, playing a key role in the coordination of these activities.
- Fundraising asset development - manage the development of a portfolio of key resources and content that can be used by startups to assist their fundraising strategy and enable us to scale our ability to support a high volume of startups at once.
- Relationship building - develop relationships with key stakeholders across Digital Catapult and act as an evangelist for the work we do with investors and assist startups to get investment ready. Work towards building new relationships with peers in the investment community, including attending events.
- Portfolio support - track portfolio startups and assist alumni to build their fundraising strategies and make strategic introductions to investors in our network.
- Communications - develop key external communication decks that clearly and concisely communicate investor opportunities to get involved with our programmes and position Digital Catapult with credibility in the investor community and support the investor communications strategy.
- Research and data capture - research the investment landscape, key trends, and scout for emerging investment funds. Capturing data about our investor and startup relationships in our CRM.
Requirements
- Takes a keen interest in startups and the venture capital industry, and enjoys staying up to date with startup news, technology developments and UK venture capital.
- Demonstrable relationship-building/stakeholder management and effective communication skills.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Has a keen eye for detail and a creative approach to problem-solving to deliver innovative solutions.
- Ability to work both independently / autonomously and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong PC Skills (experience with either Microsoft or G suite to create high-quality presentations, and Excel or Sheets to organise data and perform basic analysis).
- Previous experience working in programmes or at an accelerator is desirable but not essential.
