Your contribution

As the Director EH&S (m/f/d) you will coordinate, guide and coach all EH&S and Risk Management activities including Security and Fire Protection across international activities in Clarios EMEA (Plant locations, Commercial offices/Sales and Headquarters), focusing on the right priorities, reporting to the top management on all EH&S matters and advise them. As Director EH&S (m/f/d) you are reporting to VP Operations, being member of the Global EH&S team, developing new concepts for the improvement of EH&S, managing important projects within the plant locations and EMEA region overall and use synergies. Furthermore, the responsibility of this position includes the ownership for the business continuity plan, rules for emergency events and guidelines for security as well as buildings and insurance matters. The position will be based in our Clarios EMEA headquarters office in Hannover, Germany.

Key Responsibilities: What you will do

• Ownership for all EH&S activities incl. Environmental, Risk Management, Security and Fire protection issues for EMEA.
• Execute Clarios vision and strategy including BBP & Gap analysis. Developing roadmaps to close gaps.
• Advise top management on environmental and energy aspects of new product developments, handling of environmental investigations and proceedings.
• Provide training to top management, local management teams and additional required stakeholders as appropriate.
• Secure that procedures, work instructions and other necessary tools are in compliance with legal, Clarios and FM Global standards on EMEA level.
• Advise during Corporate Risk Management summits and global environmental meetings.
• Conduct environmental and EH&S site assessments, base line studies and remediation programs in cooperation with external consultants.
• Identify projects, develop and roll-out new concepts for the improvement of EH&S and fire protection issues. Manage multi plant important projects on EH&S.
• Advice plant managers on applications and permits for operations and buildings.
• Ensure that the Environmental and Energy management system and the Health and Safety Systems are audited and maintained in all plants throughout EMEA in accordance with the requirements.
• Coordinate H&S issues like prevention of accidents, safe use of heavy metals and other chemicals, blood lead reduction.
• Develop and maintain standard reporting processes and reports.
• Coordinate maintenance and improvement activities for HQ building.
• Drives corporate-wide EH&S initiatives in liaison with Global EH&S and corporate Risk Management.
• Coordinate property insurance and company liability issues with corporate Risk Management.
• Liaise and cooperate with Legal department in all matters that might expose the cooperation to legal actions from authorities or other third parties.
• Coordinate EH&S lobbying activities in EMEA and European countries.
• Coordinate all activities to comply with the European regulations e.g. ELV, REACH and Battery Directive.
• Represent Clarios on EH&S in the key associations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: What we look for

• University degree in Engineering, Business Management, Chemist PHD or related studies, preferable with an EH&S background
• Advanced work experience within an international matrix organization including functional expertise in EH&S
• Mastery EH&S skills including risk management, security and fire protection, and environmental investigations, and proceedings
• Ability to understand business needs, developing strategies and roadmaps and putting those plans into action
• Ability to prioritize, working toward deadlines, multi-tasking and operating in an environment with shifting priorities
• Ability to build strong working relationships with various functions and levels in an international environment as well as external suppliers
• Strong customer service focus, including strong cross-cultural communication and presentation skills
• Solid leadership skills and the ability to coach and train top management and local management teams
• Excellent proficiency in working with Microsoft Office Package, Microsoft Teams and Outlook
• Fluency in English language – both in written and spoken, German language skills are a plus
